My name is Mia Primavera and my yoga goal for the year of 2016 is to deepen my yoga practice with the 2,100 asanas listed in Daniel Lacerda’s book, aptly named 2,100 Asanas: The Complete Yoga Poses. (It is a great book with beautiful descriptive photography!) I am going to be attempting the poses, writing about what the pose is doing, and photographing my results. I am looking forward to this year of self-discovery. My ultimate goal is to be kind and accepting of myself throughout this yoga journey, to avoid perfectionism, and to deepen my awareness of self-love and self-acceptance.
In the past, I have completed a few Instagram challenges hosted by Kino Macgregor (http://www.kinoyoga.com) and Kerri Verna (http://www.beachyogagirl.com). I highly recommend looking at their Instagrams! Most recently I completed a yoga challenge titled #yogiinheels hosted by @alliyogi and @yogabam (also great Instagrams!). As I was completing this super fun challenge I noticed that I had photographed a similar backbend a few months earlier. Looking at the two photos side by side was incredibly informative. There were differences both great and small that allowed me to see my growth in a way I had not been aware of. Photographing myself doing 2,100 poses over the years will be challenging. However, as an aspiring yogini, having this reference will allow me to see my growth over the year and beyond.
Yoga is about the journey, not the destination, and I am super excited for this new chapter in my life. Here’s to self-acceptance and a yoga filled 2016!
